We're a friendly group of people who like to discuss books in a relaxed atmosphere while eating food. We read both fiction and nonfiction and variety is encouraged. Most of us joined this group to read books we might not have otherwise picked up by ourselves (and to meet people of course!). We meet in person, and therefore can only accept members who live in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

The Midnight Library: A GMA Book Club Pick: A Novel

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?

Great lesson to the book. Wish it had a little more to it tho. It was very slow.

One of the best books I’ve read in years! It’s really made me look back at my own regrets and what ifs in life. Especially in my marriage that ended in divorce after 24 years. I actually got to share my thoughts on the book with my ex husband towards the end.

8/10 on Bookclubs 4/5 on Goodreads 4.75/5 on StoryGraph This one was HEAVY, but honestly one I needed at this exact moment in my life. I’ve heard numerous people say not to read this when you’re feeling depressed, and while I can absolutely understand that thinking, I also feel like the depression I am currently battling made this book all the more powerful for me and made it resonate that much more. This book and when you read it has to be at the exact moment in your life when you really need it. For me, it was the perfect time. I’ve been feeling stagnant, in a place of I don’t know what I am doing and I’m failing at everything and what’s the point anymore? This book made me realize that I have multiple opportunities, to live and to dream and to make every day the best that I can. The choices are endless and no matter what I get one life to live. Will it be perfect? No. Absolutely not. Am I going to have regrets regardless? Yes. Do I keep pursuing the best life possible? Also yes. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We are made to live the lives we have been given to the best of our abilities. Synopsis: Between life and death there is a library. When Nora finds herself in the midnight library, she has a chance to make things right. Up until now, her life has been full of misery and regret. She has let down everyone, including herself. But things are about to change. The books in the midnight library enable her to live as if she had done things differently. With the help of an old friend, she tried to undo all her regrets and find a perfect life. But soon her choices put the library and herself in extreme danger. Before time runs out she must answer the ultimate question: what really is the best way to live?

A thought-provoking journey through alternate lives and the choices we make. Nora, stuck in a world of regret, explores infinite versions of her life in a magical library. Each new life challenges her assumptions and fears. Haig's writing is beautifully introspective, full of heart and profound insights on mental health, hope, and the possibilities within us all. I couldn’t help but reflect on my own life while reading this—about regrets and second chances, making it a book that stays with you long after it ends.
